Welcome to the Curl & Coil Chronicles

I have natural hair. That doesn’t define me, but it’s a big part of my life now. I find myself getting stopped and asked what I use in my hair or how I make it do what it does. Guarantee you that never happened when it was permed. No shade to ya’ll that perm your hair, but I love my natural hair and I love talking about it.
I hate seeing/hearing people say, “natural hair isn’t for everyone.” We’re born that way, so yeah, it is. However, it’s not everyone’s choice to stay that way. However you decide to wear your hair, wear it healthy. For those of you part of the beautiful world of natural hair, or even just those curious as to how I maintain my little bit of fly, I’m finally breaking down and adding a section where you can find natural hair info. I’m not a guru. I don’t desire to be a natural hair guru. But, I’m a me guru. I can tell you without a doubt what Ms.Vixin likes, and what works for Ms.Vixin. Outside of that and information I’ve found in my own travels and searches, you’re on your own lol. I know that a lot of you come here from hair searches and the like, so I’d be amiss if I didn’t make it easy for ya’ll. So here it is, my Curl & Coil Chronicles section will be the spot to go to for all my natural hair ramblings . If there’s anything in particular you’d like to see, any questions you’d like answered or if you have anything you’d like to share, hit me up. In the meantime, enjoy. <3
Jhene Aiko ~ Sailing Soul(s)

I can’t remember how long ago it was, but it’s been a while. I fell in love with Jhene Aiko’s mixtape Sailing Soul(s) on first listen. Jhene ( @JheneAiko) has a light and airy voice that manages to have a strong source; she doesn’t sound like she’s singing from her nose or throat. She sounds like she’s talking, yet singing…… I don’t know. She’s probably part unicorn. As it usually has it though, I was distracted by who knows what and quite some time had passed since I gave it more than a few initial listens. Who knows what it was that sparked my interest in listening again, but it’s been on repeat for at least a solid week now. Easily. I know it’s time for another album review so the timing is quite appropriate.
Oddly enough, some of the songs I enjoy the lyrics to the most, happen to be the ones I skip most frequently, and some of the songs I listen to most frequently I don’t pay much attention to the lyrics. I appreciate each song for different reasons. These are my top pics.

So I got a friend request on Foursquare. I’m quick to deny those. If I’d never go with you anywhere, I don’t see the point of us being friends on there. You can see where I check in on my social networking sites, and if you can’t, well it’s because I really don’t know you and therefore have no reason to accept your stranger ass request. But in this case, it was from someone I do know…. but haven’t spoken to in easily six or seven years. The flavor of this icing is that he’s currently engaged. So there you have it, the topic of this post is acceptable “relationships” when in a relationship.

This past Saturday I attended my first ever natural hair meet up! On Saturday May 19, naturals across the country met up at different locations to celebrate and discuss natural hair. The event I attended was held at Mirelle’s in Westbury, Long Island and was the first natural hair meet up to be held in Long Island. Our awesome event was hosted by the equally if not more awesome Daphné of UneAutreNaturelle.com. 50 beautiful women came together under her direction and enjoyed the great food, presentations by natural hair professionals, AMAZING giveaways, and a swap table.
As a new natural, I’m obviously new to natural hair meet ups. I didn’t quite know what to expect or have anything to compare it to. The events of this meet up in particular I loved. I found the Q & A with Marlene of Doris New York Hair Care Products (which I was late for 8:0/ ) more enjoyable than I could have imagined. I got a lot of good info from the different questions and answers. Toward the end of the meet up, Darcel from Natural Roots in Amityville came and demonstrated how she installs a weave with no glue or sewing. Essentially it’s braided in and was interesting to watch. From what I understand, she’s the only one around who has the hair piece for it and who uses that method.
