My UneAutreNaturelle / Carol’s Daughter Perfect Curls Meet Up Experience

0

Let me start off by saying I HAD SO MUCH DAMN FUN!!! Yet another successful meet up hosted by Daphne of UneAutreNaturelle. This event was perfectly located for me at my second home Roosevelt Field Mall. I’ve spent so much time in this place I think I’ve almost had my fill.  I can easily get here in less than 10 minuets from my job so I was all smiles. I got to the mall a little after 5 and the meet up wasn’t until 6. I stuffed my face and people watched at the food court until my cousin Maya arrived. We walked in and were warmly greeted by Daphne and the lovely workers at the Carol’s Daughter store. We signed in, got our name badges and made it just in time to settle in and catch the beginning of our presentation.

Now. I’ve sat through my share of presentations. I will say my interest in natural hair being HIGH makes it easier for me to give my attention to presentations of the sort. BUT I’m also EASILY distracted. Our presenter, Saniyyah Griffin is the NY regional manager for Carol’s Daughter and she is all types of amazing. She is well spoken, knowledgeable of the product and hair in general, personable, and warm. You can tell she really, truly loves what she does.  Her dope disposition and exceptional presentation skills absolutely made this one of my favorite meet ups thus far.

During one of Saniyyah’s product demos I was pleased to see that I was actually using one of my products incorrectly, and that’s why I wasn’t liking it. I’d spent all that money on my Tui leave-in conditioner spray and was using it wrong;  I wasn’t using enough for my current length of hair. Duh! I learned that I’m definitely detangling my hair wrong as well. I’ll be investing in a Tangle Teazer very soon (thanks for sending the link Daphne, you know I forgot what it was called like 3 minuets after we talked about it lol).

The comfortable setting of the meet up made it easy to ask questions as well. I’ve made up my mind to get box braids pretty soon, so I made sure to ask what Saniyyah felt good hair prep would be for this protective style. I was pleased to hear that I won’t need more than a good deep condition and heat protector for blowing it out to prepare for the braids.  The small size of the group was really to my liking. There were maybe 12-20 women in the store and it made for a really intimate exchange of info. It also made talking to and learning from the ladies so much easier. Contrary to popular belief I’m “shy” and am really not one to often initiate convo with a stranger. But after spending over an hour learning with this group, it felt like second nature to keep the convo rolling.

The giveaways were amazing! I won a 4oz Almond Cookie shea soufflé for tweeting about the event, and I won my cousin Maya one by telling her the answer to the trivia question (I be knowin). The giveaways continued through the night and so did the bonding.

I truly enjoyed myself at this meet up!! I loved meeting other local natural beauties and also just hanging with my cousin. I am definitely excited for the next natural hair meet up! I really just want to add here, I love my freaking natural hair! Who woulda thunk I’d be happy to be nappy!
